Keep your product up to date!
Many of our products have undergone a process of continual refinement and development over the years. New features have been incorporated and many of these are available as upgrades to older units. This page aims to clarify the differences between versions, and which upgrades are available. Please note that the upgrades described here are to software only - the hardware is not altered (except in the case of older Analysers and ZoneMasters which will be fitted with the latest sensor type.) Prices given here are for UK customers only; for overseas customers there will be an extra return postage charge for any upgrade which requires the unit to be returned to the factory. Customers outside the EU do not pay the VAT element of the cost.
Old StopClock | Old Analyser/ZoneMaster | Timer 2 | StopClock Professional | Analyser Pro | ZoneMaster II | Heiland Splitgrade
Original StopClock
The original StopClock (housed in a plastic case - see the about page for an illustration)) can be upgraded to the final two-channel version, but please note that this does not provide the same functionality as the StopClock Professional (which uses an entirely different hardware platform). We regret that the oldest StopClocks (serial number 200 and below) can no longer be upgraded as parts are not available.
The upgrade cost is £40 inc VAT and requires that the unit be returned to us. Please contact us before doing so to make sure an upgrade is available for your unit.
Original Analyser and ZoneMaster
There were several versions of the original plastic-cased Analyser, all of which can be upgraded to a level similar in functionality to the Analyser Pro. The earliest version had a single calibration channel. This was later increased to two and then four channels. The “Analyser Plus” (serial numbers 5000 and above) has eight channels and already incorporates the remaining new features which include user-selectable exposure step-size, greater sensitivity, and easier calibration. Plus versions and previously upgraded Analysers can be identified by the display showing “u 5.0” (or u 5.1 or u 5.2) during the power-up sequence, and by the first measurement lighting the highlight LED on the grey scale instead of a mid-tone. If you are considering buying a second-hand Analyser it pays to check the firmware status as the later “Plus” models have much improved functionality. The latest firmware version is 5.2.
The original ZoneMaster had four calibration channels. The “Zonemaster Plus” has eight channels and already incorporates the remaining new features. Plus versions can be identified by the display showing “u 3.n” during power-up and by the first measurement lighting the highlight LED on the grey scale instead of a mid-tone.
The upgrade cost for either product is £50 inc VAT and requires that the unit be returned to us. Please contact us before doing so to make sure an upgrade is available for your unit.
These units cannot be upgraded to the new measurement system - sorry.
Timer 2
Early versions of the Timer 2 can be upgraded to StopClock LE specification which offers a choice of f-stop intervals and a wider timing range. If your Timer 2 can work in 1/3, 1/4, 1/6 or 1/12 stop intervals then it is already StopClock LE specification.
The upgrade cost is £40 inc VAT and requires that the unit be returned to us. Please contact us before doing so to make sure an upgrade is available for your unit.
StopClock Professional
The current firmware level is 8.5. Older versions with v.7 firmware can be upgraded to the current specification. The main differences are an improvement of functionality when used with a ZoneMaster II, the method of setting User Options which now uses a menu system, plus the latest Split Grade mode - see the StopClock page for full details.
The upgrade cost is £25 inc VAT and the new chip can be fitted by the user.
Analyser Pro
All Analyser Pros can be upgraded to use the new measurement system. This offers much faster settling times, better repeatability and greater stability. The upgrade cost is £70 inc VAT and includes a Calibration Kit. Upgrade requires that the unit be returned to us. Please contact us before returning your unit.
The latest firmware level for the Analyser Pro is 6.4. The only change is to the safelight user options which are now “Auto” (off during measurements and printing) and “Off” (off whenever the enlarger is on, and vice versa). The upgrade cost is £25 inc VAT and the new chip can be fitted by the user. PLEASE NOTE - this upgrade is for existing versions 6.0 and later ONLY.
The latest firmware level for Analyser Pros with the original sensor is 5.4. Older versions with v5.3 firmware can be upgraded to the current specification. The main differences are the method of changing PAP channels and setting User Options which now use a menu system. The upgrade cost is £25 inc VAT and the new chip can be fitted by the user.
ZoneMaster II
All ZoneMaster IIs can be upgraded to use the new measurement system. This offers much faster settling times, better repeatability and greater stability. The upgrade cost is £70 inc VAT and includes a Calibration Kit. Upgrade requires that the unit be returned to us. Please contact us before returning your unit. The current firmware version for the ZoneMaster II is v4.4.
The latest firmware level for ZoneMaster IIs with the original sensor is v3.5. This version adds some User Options; the power save mode can be disabled, display brightness has two levels, and the test strip generator can indicate times for incremental or separate-exposure test strips. The method of changing PAP channels has also been changed to improve ergonomics. The upgrade cost is £25 inc VAT and the new chip can be fitted by the user.
Heiland SplitGrade System
These systems can all be upgraded by the user to the latest firmware, using a PC together with the serial cable originally supplied with each unit. Download the current firmware from Heiland’s web site here (version 2.6) and unzip the files. Follow the instructions included in the package to install the upgrade. There is no charge for this upgrade.
