"The Black & White Darkroom Video"

by Chris Woodhouse

Produced and presented by Chris Woodhouse, Analyser inventor and co-author of "Way Beyond Monochrome", this instructional DVD is designed for both beginners and those returning to the darkroom after a break, and covers the essentials of camera exposure and film development. Also included are plenty of tips and tricks for painless printing in the darkroom. Some of the sequences are filmed in the dark using a novel infra-red technique which allows the viewer to watch the actual processes of making prints rather than a simulation, and this makes it a valuable learning aid.

Contents:

  • Exposure - correct film exposure in the camera is vital for quality black and white work, and this chapter offers plenty of advice about how to achieve it, and avoid the biggest obstacle to fine printing - underexposure.
  • Film Development - how to avoid under- and over-development of film and the problems that result.
  • Making a Contact Print - the first step in deciding which negatives to enlarge.
  • Making Enlargements - how to determine print exposure and paper grade for optimum results, including the use of the RH Analyser Pro.

Please note this is not the film of the "Way Beyond Monochrome" book, nor is it a "how to use the Analyser" video; rather it is intended as a general introduction to darkroom practice and procedures.
